TREATMENT STEP-BY-STEP

braces1.INITIAL EXAM

During the initial exam it will be determined if orthodontic treatment is necessary. If so, potential treatment options will be discussed as well as a treatment cost and estimated time. If necessary we will contact your insurance company to the extent of your coverage.

2. INITIAL RECORDS

Once you decide to proceed with treatment, complete diagnostic records will need to be obtained to aid in the course of treatment. Complete diagnostic records will include comprehensive x-rays (Panoramic and Cephalometric), facial photos and intra- oral photos and impressions of your teeth. This visit will take approximately 20 to 30 minutes.

3. CONSULTATION

During the consultation, we will go over in detail your x- rays, photos and digital models. We will discuss the individually prepared treatment plan for you as well as oral hygiene requirements and needed dental proceedures needed for your treatment. You can ask the doctor any questions you have regarding your treatment.

4. PLACING APPLIANCES

The necessary orthodontic appliance will be placed during this one to two hour session. Usually all appliances are placed at one visit. At this visit you will also get a toothbrushing kit and instructions.

5. ADJUSTMENT VISITS

Throughout the course of treatment, ranging from 13 to 24 months, you will need to come into our office periodically for short adjustment visits. These appointments will be every 3 to 6 weeks. Your cooperation is crucial. Broken appliances will extend your visit and also can extend your treatment time.

6. REMOVING BRACES

Once your treatment has been completed the appliance will be removed and a permanent retainer will be bonded to the lingual (back) side of your lower teeth. An impression for the upper removable retainer will be taken. This visit will also be scheduled on a weekday during morning hours and the visit will take about one hour.

7. RETENTION VISITS

This is the final phase of your treatment. A retainer will be made to ensure your teeth will remain in their corrected position while your bones and gums adapt to the change. You will visit us after a week from the removal of your braces to pick up your retainer. There are a few different types of retainers and Dr. Katsis will recommend the appropriate retainer for you.
